Yay October!

Spooky season is here!

Hey Firecrackers!

How’s your fall going so far? The weather is finally cooling down, leaves are falling, horror movies and pumpkin everything is in season- it’s a good time isn’t it?

Personally, I love this time of year! No more sweating- hoodies and heavy clothing all season long; scary movies are a must after 5pm, soup ALL the time, pumpkin flavoured treats are EVERYWHERE...it’s fun indeed.

Fall aside, let’s talk about some Firecracker Department stuff that’s gone on. As you may know, not too long ago we had our Live Red Carpet & TIFF Brunch! It was a great event with amazing people! I was able to tune into the Red Carpet before the brunch started, and I’m so glad I did. I loved catching Bilal Baig and getting to hear what they had to say. I’m super excited to watch Sort Of on CBC, so getting to see their shining personality before I watch the show was a plus. Speaking of Bilal, Naomi’s interview with them also drops TODAY! Check it out.

Inside the TIFF Brunch, I was hosting a room with Liesl Lafferty. We had a joint room between the Writing Department and Script Department. It was so much fun! We did a bunch of writing games and had many laughs. We had a game where Liesl and I would read loglines we wrote, then get the participants to come up with fake movie titles for them. We also had a few mini writing bursts! We played One Word at a Time and built an interesting story about a woman on a beach, then we cooled things off by asking people about memorable movie experiences.

That Sunday was a great experience, and my first time actually being at a Firecracker Department TIFF event. Double yay!

Other than that, the usual is going on. We’ve got our weekly Sunday zoom Brunch, our weekly Thursday Writing Bursts and our monthly newsletter that goes out TODAY...so check those emails!

I wanted to say thanks for hanging in there and reading these monthly entries, it means a lot to have that sense of community. Hopefully I’ve made you laugh at some point; maybe I was able to get you more involved in FD? Either way, it makes me happy.

Time to end this entry with my end of blog call to action:

  • Watch a scary movie!

  • Dig up an old, but favourite, sweater or hoodie

  • Enjoy your fall

Thanks for reading, see you in November!
